Post-season play rules:

PASSED - 4/24/99
Different starters must throw in Games 1-4 of any post-season series. No pitcher can ever throw back-to-back starts. Starters may be used as relievers at will.

PASSED 3/18/07
Permanent home-field advantage established for World Series. SDCS champion gets home-field edge in odd-numbered years, NDCS champion in even-numbered years.

PASSED 3/29/14

Beginning with 2015 Sphere season, pitchers may not appear in starting lineup as a DH. ... Pitchers who enter as pinch-hitters may not remain in lineup for more than one at bat, barring injury-forced exception.

PASSED 3/25/18

Strat-o-matic's new "extreme matchup" feature is only to be used in the postseason by two consenting owners.

PASSED 3/27/20

Strat's new "Monster Card" option shall not be employed in any postseason game, and the "Starting Pitcher Clutch" option also will not be used.

PASSED 3/27/20

Customized ballparks must not be more extreme than the most extreme real park in any respect.

PASSED 3/27/20

Sphere postseason rosters increased to 26 men.

PASSED 4/10/21

Beginning in 2022, Sphere postseason play shall employ MLB's 3-batter minimum rule, but will not be obliged if Strat's 3-batter minimum rule is inseparably packaged with other new rules (i.e. - man on 2nd base in extra innings rule) that the Sphere has not agreed upon.

PASSED 4/10/21

Home park commitments shall be for 3 years rather than 2. All owners must make their first 3-year park commitment by the 2021 MLB All-Star Game for the next three years. Park renewals or park changes shall also be 3-year commitments so that all four owners are always assessing the home park issue at the same time.

PASSED 2/11/22

The Sphere adopts a 54-game schedule prorated for injuries for all postseason series, not adjustable by two consenting owners, with the understanding that new information or research on injuries can re-open the discussion at any time.

PASSED 2/11/22

The Sphere will use the "pre-2020 rules" option for the 2022 postseason, if Strat-o-Matic makes that option available, and re-address the minimum 3-batter rule and any others ahead of the 2023 draft.

PASSED 3/6/23

The Sphere postseason will continue to employ Strat’s pre-2020 rules setting annually, to be revisited only if future versions of the game permit a decoupling of the 3-batter rule and the man-on-2nd extra inning rule. As well, the option for a defensive shift is no longer to be used in post-season play.
